Silent is a adjective which is used to qualify that or that which is serene, temperate, stealthy, silent or peaceful . For example: "The man, silent, approached the dying woman and smiled", "Nora turned off the radio and stayed for several minutes watching the silent, self-absorbed device", “The boy manifested a silent protest through his gaze”.

It is often spoken of "It was silent" of the movie theater to refer to the historical period of this art in which the movies lacked sound. The technical impossibility of synchronizing the audio with the images made the silent era films lack dialogues, sometimes being replaced by plaques or posters with written expressions.

It was usual that, in the projections of silent movies , there was an orchestra or a band that performed live musical pieces. Thus, the movies had an audio that accompanied them. From the end of the decade of 1920 , silent films began to lose popularity and proposals with synchronized sound became frequent.

Within the literary field, we have to emphasize that there are numerous books that use the term that concerns us in their titles. This would be the case, for example, of “Silente”, a poems by the author Sofía Montero García that was published in 2015, or “Songs for a silent music”, by Antonio Colinas and which was released in 2014.

Likewise, we cannot ignore the existence of an editorial that responds to the name of “Silente Ediciones”, which is presented on its website as a “space for creation, literature and science”.

In the field of science, more exactly of medicine, there is what is known as silent thyroiditis or silent thyroiditis. As the name implies, it is a thyroid disorder, which was fully discovered in the 1960s and is considered not particularly frequent. Among the usual symptoms that identify it are nervousness, palpitations, a noticeable feeling of weakness and, in the same way, a loss of weight.

In addition to the above, this pathology highlights the fact that it occurs in several phases (hyperfunctional, normofunctional, hypofunctional ...) and that it cannot be treated as such. Specifically, what is done in these cases by the doctor who has a case is to proceed to establish a treatment for the symptoms experienced by the patient since the silent thyroid, as such, cannot be addressed.

The idea of silente, on the other hand, is often used to qualify those activities or tasks that person makes without advertising or spreading them . It is common for these works to be solidarity work that, by modesty, the individual does not want to make known. The adjective also applies to activities that they have no impact on the media and that, therefore, they are little known by public opinion: "This doctor performed a noble silent task for years in the north of the country", “It's a silent project, but that can be important”.
